#MUSEUM: GuestViews through the pipes of Centre Pompidou

The digital guestbook is coming to Centre Pompidou, a centre of modern and contemporary art in Paris for more than forty years.

The Georges Pompidou National Centre for Art and Culture (CNAC) was inaugurated on the 31 January 1977. It houses a very diverse collection where fine arts stand alongside design and even cinema. The Centre is divided into two main spaces, the modern period (1905-1960) and the contemporary (1960-), plus the numerous exhibitions. In short, there’s something for everyone, from Picasso to Andy Warhol! The Centre also houses the Public Information Library, where GuestViews proposes a dedicated app for the Jean Echenoz exhibition.

Built on an old parking lot, the museum was designed by Gianfranco Franchini, Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. It’s situated in Beaubourg, close to the Marais, at the very heart of Paris. The architects were chosen through quite an original means for the time: an international competition! The CNAC now represents a unique island in the city because of its resolutely modern facade covered in an entanglement of stairs and brightly-coloured pipes. That means all of the logistics of the building are visible on the exterior parts, leaving the entirety of the inside of the museum for the arts.

Today, the Centre is reaffirming its desire for modernity by partnering up with Guestviews for its new exhibition, “Chagall, Lissitzky, Malevitch… The Russian avant-garde in Vitebsk (1918-1922)”. You will be able to come enjoy emblematic works of the school of Vitebsk, displaying the evolution of the arts after the Russian revolution.

Discover the museum from the 28 March to the 16 July and share your impressions with GuestViews!
