#MUSEUM: GuestViews immortalised at the Anvers Museum of Photography

GuestViews is joining forces with the Anvers Museum of Photography (FOMU)! Together with the Ixelles museum, it is the second Belgian institution to be equipped with a digital guestbook. Never heard of this emblematic place of photography? This article is here to explain everything…

The museum owns three collections divided between the “image”, “equipment” and “library” categories. The first one boasts more than 900 000 photographs – journalistic and artistic and documentary – as well as slides and glass photographic plates. Most of the items come from Belgium, namely from archive collections, but also thanks to the Gevaert society and its pictures published in the magazine Fotorama. American photographs from the post-war period as well as more recent ones are also available to the public.
As for the equipment exhibition, it comprises around 23 000 objects, making it one of the biggest in the world! Finally, the library contains a huge number of recent as well as older publications about the scientific study of photography.

Numerous exhibitions are regularly organised in the museum. Right now, “In Transit” proposes to discover the behind the scenes of exhibitions, with an open area displaying works in the process of being moved to the new tower. Each photograph is hung at the time of its respective moving, which makes the exhibition as a whole an evolving display throughout the time of the installation. As soon as the works are finished being moved, you can come see Camille Picquot’s surprising exhibit, as well as nudes by Paul Kooiker!

Are you a photography enthusiast? Hurry up and go get to know this comprehensive museum and its unique exhibitions. Don’t forget to leave a review on the GuestViews guestbook!
